This weekend intensive opens with an overview and discussion of different binding structures, the anatomy of the book and the materials and tools that are fundamental to craft bookbinding. We'll discuss the basic tool kit, the importance of paper grain, and folding paper and preparing signatures for sewing. Victoria offers a thorough, hands-on approach to learning about bookbinding. Focusing on a traditional sewn structure, the class will sew multiple signatures on linen tapes and then build a cover for the textblock. Students continue with this structure over the weekend, for the repetition and practice are integral to learning any new craft, and end up with two full-cloth, case-bound books. A great starting point for people curious about bookbinding.
