Paul Douglas, chief meteorologist at Twin Cities television station WCCO (Channel 4), will discuss his book ?Restless Skies: The Ultimate Weather Book? on Saturday, Dec. 10 at 3 p.m. at River City Books, 306 Division St. S., Northfield. A book signing will follow. The event is free and open to the public.

Douglas?s book addresses a myriad of weather issues and questions, such as, Is global warming real? Where is Tornado Alley? What?s the difference between a weather warning, a weather watch and a weather advisory? The sky is unpredictable, and Douglas is the first to admit that?s a sobering thought for someone who makes his living predicting the weather.

Douglas got interested in weather at age 14 when Hurricane Agnes flooded his boyhood home. Calling meteorology ?a hobby that evolved into a career,? he has now been a TV meteorologist for 25 years. In 1990, Douglas launched EarthWatch Communications to produce 3-D weather graphics software, now is licensed by hundreds of television stations worldwide and used in films such as ?Jurassic Park? and ?Twister.? Douglas also is co-founder of Digital Cyclone, a company that develops weather applications for the wireless market.

Douglas is the author of two books, contributes to daily radio reports and provides both print and Web weather columns for the Minneapolis Star Tribune. He has appeared on ABC News Nightline with Ted Koppel and the CBS Evening News with Dan Rather.
