February 7, 2011 at 7pm meet Steven Beasley as he discusses his award winning biography of 2010 (USA Book News). An evening of forgotten musical and Hollywood history. Receiving acclaimed meritorious reviews from many universities, such as,Univ. Colorado / Glen Miller Archives, Univ.NC, Univ. of Nebraska, this biography is an important part of American music history that has now been preserved for generations to come. This is the first full length biography of the man and his band who set swing music on its ear, then disappeared.
A documentary short about Kay Kyser and his orchestra, produced and directed by Steven will also be presented followed by the authors signing.

America’s Forgotten Superstar is 341 pages, includes full KK discography, over 100 photos, rare interviews with Kay Kyser, his band members, and the Kyser family and of course the full life story of the Ol’Professor himself. There are also profiles on prominent KK orchestra members, color repros of KK movie posters, sheet music and magazine covers. Steven has spent 25 years researching Kay and his orchestra. He has had the opportunity to interview many of the band members, including, Harry Babbitt and Ish Kabibble, before their passing.

Author, Steven Beasley - Originally from the deep south, Steven’s professional past has included such music related assignments as assistant director of the scoring stage at Paramount Pictures, Hollywood in the early 1990’s. He was also head recording engineer/producer at Songsafe Recording in the San Fernando Valley, and is currently serving the same function at Coffeetone Studio, in the Los Angeles area. Beasley has researched the Kay Kyser Orchestra for twenty years, Gaining both their confidence and friendship, getting their history first hand from former band members and the Kyser family. In addition, he is a professional musician and songwriter, having songs placed in films, written and recorded musical scores that have shown on Showtime, HBO and Europe. Steven is an internationally published author with articles in England’s Big Bands International magazine and stateside, Back In The Mood periodical. A husband and father of two, Steven currently resides in the Los Angeles, CA area.
