A New Concert Work by Philip Glass
Based on the Poetry of Leonard Cohen
New York Premiere
“The most powerful composer of our time”—The Daily Telegraph on Philip Glass
Philip Glass, heralded for “changing the face of music” (The Daily Telegraph), joins forces with iconoclastic musician and poet Leonard Cohen for Book of Longing, a new work inspired by Cohen’s first collection of poems in over twenty years. This monumental collaboration combines Glass’ music with poetry that is “clear yet steamy, cosmic yet private” (The New York Times). Glass describes Cohen’s text as “intensely beautiful, personal, and inspiring,” and this production culminates years of artistic admiration between these two musical figures. For this New York premiere, Glass himself will perform on keyboards, joining singers and musicians from the indie rock, classical and new music circles alongside a recorded voiceover of Cohen.
This event is part of the New Music Trio package.
