Body Ornamentation: Artistic Representation of Self October 16, 2006

A wide range of artifacts and other items will be on display in the exhibit, including images portraying body modification and ornamentation as well as sculptures and ceramic vessels depicting decorated bodies. Tools used for body decoration (mallets, chisels, and blades, and modern tattooing and piercing instruments), as well as decorative ornaments (ear rods and plugs, earrings, lip plates, belly rings) will also be displayed. While many of these artifacts come from the Museum's collection, there will also be items on loan from other institutions throughout the United States, as well as from private collections.
