Noel Coward is a master at depicting witty and urbane characters at their least sophisticated moments. In 'Blithe Spirit,' Charles Condomine and his second wife, Ruth, are forced to contend with his previous marriage, but not in abstract terms. Instead they must dodge the very real presence of wife number one, Elvira, who comes back to haunt Charles after a seance goes awry. Jealousy and recriminations fly through the air--along with some bric-a-brac hurled with angry intent.
