Blaine Siegel presents a room sized installation titled PROGENITOR (The Last Human) opening Thursday APRIL 9, 2009 6 - 9 PM the exhibition runs through May 1.
Blaine Siegel's work explores perceptions of time, the advancement of life on this planet and the confrontation that ensues when man and nature are forced upon one another. He often uses quotidian, recycled materials and video as tools for his exploration. By recontextualizing materials Blaine Siegel is able to prompt the viewer to look more closely and think more freely.
In his current work, PROGENITOR (The Last Humans), he investigates both the spiritual and scientific adaptability of life in the face of adversity. This work is influenced by the organic forms found in marine life, the Pacific Trash Vortex and the idea of evolution grasping at new building blocks for creation. He begins with a set of questions and lets the artwork provide the answers. What does the future hold for man in our ever-changing world? Should life as we know it not survive, in what manner will life evolve and persevere? Which raw materials will life choose to create new life forms, new consciousness?
