The second annual Singleton Moms golf tournament, an event to raise funds for single parents who are battling cancer, will be held March 26 at Blackstone Country Club in Peoria.
“Last year’s inaugural event generated $30,000, which was the organization’s largest single contribution that year,” explained Todd Cernohous, Blackstone’s director of golf. Blackstone was recognized for the contribution with the Rosa Davalos Giving Hands Award for exceptional fundraising from the organization and was accepted by Blackstone members Jane Dibbern and Amanda Pham who organized the tournament.
Dibbern said the goal this year is to exceed the funds raised at last year’s event. “We are especially proud of the fact that all monies raised help single parents battling cancer who live right here in Maricopa County.”
Singleton Moms was founded in 2006 by two Valley women who watched their childhood friend, Michelle Singleton, succumb to cancer. The organization offers emotional, financial and domestic support to single mothers or fathers in Maricopa County who have children living at home, are receiving cancer-related treatments and are in need of financial and/or household assistance.
Tournament sign-up begins Feb. 15 on a space available basis. The tournament can accommodate 25 teams of four players each. Each team must consist of either all ladies or any combination of men and ladies. Cost to enter is $150 per player. Registration and a Continental breakfast are scheduled from 7-8:30 a.m. Putting and bucket shot competitions are from 7:30-8:45 a.m. The event gets underway with a shotgun start at 9 a.m.
“We plan to build the Singleton Moms tournament so the organization can continue to help the people who need their assistance, said Cernohous. “As we continue to increase membership at the club, we’ll continue to grow the tournament and the monies generated from registrations and sponsorships.”
A premier sponsor for 2012 is Desert Schools Federal Credit Union. Sponsorships are still available at the $2,500 Premier level as well as the $1,500 Gold level and a $500 Hole Sponsor. These include signage, a hole attendant and announcements.
Other sponsorships include a $250 Special Hole Event Sponsor, a $250 Bucket Shot Sponsor and a $250 Long Putt Sponsor.
A silent auction and prize drawings of items donated by local businesses and other organizations will be held throughout the day.
For the cost of the tournament fee, players can participate in all special contests including the putting and bucket competitions, beat the pro, closest to the pin and others.

Comprised of 570 acres, Blackstone is a private, gated community offering a variety of real estate opportunities including luxury builder homes and custom home sites. The purchase of real estate is not required to become a member of the golf club. The Blackstone course is designer Jim Engh’s first Arizona golf course characterized by sheer rock faces, gently undulating fairways and imaginative greens. By incorporating Blackstone’s dramatic valleys, arroyos and ridges into the layout, Engh pushed the limits of creative design while drawing on his love of Irish

courses. The course has been designated a Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary.
Blackstone is located north of Happy Valley Road and west of Lake Pleasant Parkway within the master planned community of Vistancia.
