BLACKBERRY® CURVE™ CHALLENGE TESTS URBANITES’ ABILITY TO NAVIGATE SAN FRANCISCO AND ALCATRAZ ISLAND
Blackberry Curve and Verizon Wireless Present the BlackBerry Curve Challenge to Introduce the New Blackberry Curve 8330 Smartphone
WHO: Fifty, two-person teams will rely on their brawn and brains as they compete to win the BlackBerry Curve Challenge: Destination Alcatraz, by navigating the streets of San Francisco and conquering challenges on Alcatraz Island. Participation is free and open to adults aged 18 and older. Registrations begin on Saturday, June 7 at 9 a.m. PST. Up to 50 teams will be accepted on a first-come basis. Three out-of-state teams will be among the competitors. They qualified at challenge events in Boston, Minneapolis and Portland.
WHAT: Challengers will compete in a timed 12-mile, multi-disciplinary race that will incorporate San Francisco’s geography and landmarks in a competition that tests the teams’ urban orienting skills, physical and mental prowess. Additionally, competitors will be provided rare access to areas of Alcatraz Island, inside and outside the infamous prison, that are typically off limits to the public.
Armed with the Verizon Wireless BlackBerry Curve 8330 smartphone powered by the Verizon Wireless network, savvy teams will use the advanced functions of the device to maximize their race performance. The smartphone will provide competitors with a variety of race-day (and everyday) solutions including turn-by-turn navigation to and from each checkpoint using VZ Navigator, researching clues via the Internet, fulfilling photo requirements, and obtaining input from friends and family via calls and text messages.
