Bryan Bush, M.A., of the University of Louisville examines the relationship between Lincoln and Joshua and James Speed.

On April 15, 1837, a young lawyer named Abraham Lincoln met Joshua Speed in his Springfield, Illinois store. The resulting friendship between Joshua Speed and Lincoln would last throughout Lincoln's life, and the friendship spread to James Speed, Joshua Speed's brother. Both Joshua and James Speed became Lincoln's informants during the Civil War. With Joshua and James Speed's help, Lincoln managed to keep Kentucky in the Union. In 1864, James Speed became Lincoln's attorney general. After Lincoln's death, Joshua and James Speed continued to honor Lincoln's memory. At this event, Bryan will be debuting his new book Lincoln and the Speeds.
