This is the largest and most important of all His Majesty's birthday celebrations in Thailand. It takes place at the royal field, Sanam Luang.

The week-long festivities include a procession from the statue of King Chulalongkorn at Amporn Park (Sri Ayuthaya Rd) to Sanam Luang, and many ceremonies. These include Buad Nak, the ordination of new monks, Phitee Rab Sin, when Thais promise to follow the five Buddhist commandments, and Phitee Buang Suang Phra Siam Thewathirat and Somdej Phra Burapha Mahakasartriyathirajchao, when Thais pay homage to the gods with flowers, food and money.

The highlight of the events comes when, during a live broadcast, Prime Minister Taksin leads the annual nationwide candle-lighting and singing of Sansuen Phra Baramee (God Save the King) to bless His Majesty. The song is followed by fireworks and stage performances until midnight.
