The San Jose Jazz Sunday Series celebrates the genius of Miles Davis with this concert led by local jazz luminaries Wayne Wallace and John Worley. The ensemble will play the original arrangements from the legendary, landmark "Birth of the Cool" album. Recorded over several sessions in 1949-50, it not only put Miles Davis on the map, it started a whole new style of jazz music. Its slower and softer sound resonated throughout the jazz world and influenced musicians everywhere, helping launch the mellow sound that would later be called West Coast Jazz (Dave Brubeck, Gerry Mulligan, Chet Baker.)

The personnel for this tribute include John L. Worley Jr - trumpet/flugelhorn; Wayne Wallace - trombone; Kristen Strom - alto sax; Fil Lorenz - tenor/baritone saxophones; Diane Ryan - French horn; Steve Tyler - tuba; Murray Low - piano; John Hettel - bass; Jason Lewis - drums.
