She is the Queen of the Swans, a princess of the night, all magic. Her worldly prince is a tragic hero and their love is doomed. The spell is broken only when Siegfried sacrifices himself for Odette, and they are reunited in death. But the spell is never broken for audiences. 'Swan Lake,' with Tchaikovsky's impassioned sweep of music and pure choreographic poetry, continues to set the standard for romantic-classic ballet.
