Basic science research at Oregon Health & Science University has the potential to contribute to an infinite array of exciting new drugs, medical devices, and techniques that can help treat patients suffering from any number of disorders. However, its most promising discoveries may be undervalued or lost without proper marketing and development. Creating productive collaborations between the researchers at OHSU, industry, and venture capitalists increases the chance that such discoveries can find their way from the lab to the clinic. Timothy Stout, M.D., Ph.D., M.B.A., recently named to the newly created position of Vice President for Commercialization Strategies at OHSU, hopes to develop such collaborative partnerships and promote an environment at OHSU that embraces commercialization of its technologies.

As a practicing ophthalmologist and accomplished researcher specializing in retinal diseases, Dr. Stout brings to his new position experience from both the research and clinical sides of medicine. In this interactive, hour-long session, Dr. Stout will discuss his new role at OHSU and his vision for the recently formed Commercialization Strategies department.
