After almost 20 years of using the alias Smog for his music, Bill Callahan switched to his given name for his releases. Callahan is nearly synonymous with lo-fi. His baritone voice and sparse fractured arrangements suggest the ethos and poetry of spooky American folk. A meandering tempo adorned in a simple guitar line is characteristic of his melancholy, languid sound. With each release the production of Callahan’s music evolves, but his lyrics continue to be as personal as ever. Bill Callahan’s new album, “Sometimes I Wish We Were An Eagle”, will be released later this month. www.dragcity.com/bands/callahan.html
