The United States is one of the most religious countries on earth, but Americans know shockingly little about their own religions, or the religions of others. Nonetheless, the Bible continues to function as the scripture of American politics. In this lecture Stephen Prothero, award-winning author of 'Religious Literacy: What Every American Needs to Know - And Doesn't' and Chair of the Department of Religion at Boston University, explores the implications of Americans' religious illiteracy on American public life, and suggests ways the public schools can address this challenge. A private dinner with Dr. Prothero will follow the lecture, offering guests an opportunity to meet the author and ask questions one-on-one.
