– In a continuation of its ongoing series of theology classes and seminars, Vintage21 church is proud to welcome Dr. David Alan Black, professor of new Testament and Greek at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, to lead a seminar exploring which methods are useful for the discipline of biblical criticism, and what bearings it has on Christianity.

This event will be held at 117 S West Street in downtown Raleigh, from 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday, September 9, and is both free and open to the public.

“The validity of the Bible and the faith of Christianity have been questioned for centuries, but just recently through multiple venues, including books, seminars and movies,” said Tyler Jones, lead pastor of Vintage21 Church. “The criticism has heightened to a feverish level. This brings us to a place where we must ask, ‘Can you be a thinking Christian?’ As a thinking Christian, can you really trust Christian tradition(s) and the Scriptures that support it?

“Our hope in hosting this seminar is to help doubters, seekers and followers of Jesus enter into the world of biblical criticism, learn from aspects of this discipline, and become more sure of their faith from discerning what is accurate and what is fabricated.”

Dr. Black holds a Doctorate of Theology from the University of Basel in Switzerland, and writes frequently in the subject area of the New Testament and Greek as well as Biblical Criticism. He has taught numerous courses in the United States, Europe, and Asia and lectured at the Complutensian University in Spain, the Areopagus in Timisoara, Romania, and the Universities of Oxford and Leeds in England.

Vintage21 is a church of seekers, followers and doubters who are learning to follow and worship Christ. Services are held Sundays at 9:30 and 11:30 a.m., and again at 6 p.m. at 117 S. West St. in downtown Raleigh. For more information or for detailed directions, visit www.vintage21.com.
