India International Centre presents Bharatanatyam by Sneha Chakradhar Disciple of Guru Geeta Chandran.Sneha Chakradhar - Bharatanatyam Dancer: has been pursuing the classical dance form of Bharatanatyam since the age of nine and is blessed to have learnt under the best Gurus in the field. She was initially trained and nurtured by Kalaimamani Guru K.N. Dakshinamoorthy, under whom she presented her Arangetram (stage debut) in the year 2000.She is currently a disciple of (Padmashri) Guru Geeta Chandran, the celebrated dancer and Founder-President of Natya Vriksha.Sneha has had the opportunity to present solo performances and be part of prominent choreographic works at some of the most prestigious cultural spaces in India and abroad, including the Nehru Centre in London , the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan in Sydney , The Lincoln Centre in New York , the Thai Cultural Centre in Bangkok and the Mahatma Gandhi Institute in Mauritius .She was awarded the Dandayudhapani Pillai Award 2001 for outstanding contributions to the Dandayudhapani style of dancing and was awarded the Natya Ratna by the former President of India, Mr. R. Venkataraman in the year 2000.Sneha's decade-long association with Geeta Chandran has been most crucial for her in developing a wider understanding of the arts and their relevance in present time. A senior dancer in Geeta Chandrans Natya Vriksha Dance Company, Sneha has travelled extensively with varied productions addressing issues ranging from drug abuse, HIV AIDS and violence to female feticide, women's identity and empowerment. An academic enthusiast, Sneha holds a Masters Degrees in Sociology (Jamia Millia Islamia) and in Theatre (UNSW, Australia ), along with a Diploma in Development Communication (MCRC, Jamia Millia). With Bharatanatyam as her case study, she is currently pursuing her PhD in Sociology.Born in a family of musicians and litterateurs, Sneha has received immense encouragement and valuable guidance in carving a niche for herself in the invigorating world of the arts.
