Beyond The High Line: Transforming Cities Across The United States July 23, 2012

New York, NY (July 09, 2012) – Friends of the High Line is pleased to continue its new series of free public talks, “Beyond the High Line,” to educate and inspire conversation about the transformation of the out-of-use industrial infrastructure into public open space across the country.

“The High Line is just one of many examples of ways that communities are working together to transform old, industrial infrastructure into public space. We look forward to bringing some of the country’s most innovative thinkers to New York City, and giving them the High Line as their platform to present their big ideas and talk about the latest updates with their projects,” said Robert Hammond, Co-Founder of Friends of the High Line.

Transforming Detroit
WHEN: Monday, July 23, 6:30 PM
WHERE: 14th Street Passage, on the High Line at West 14th Street
WHAT: Faye Nelson, Executive Director of the Detroit Riverfront Conservancy, and Phillip Cooley, Director of Ponyride and board member of Detroit’s Roosevelt Park, will give a presentation on efforts to turn Detroit’s out-of-use real estate and infrastructure into parks, such as the Riverfront, the Dequindre Cut, Roosevelt Park, and more. The presentation will be followed by a discussion with Friends of the High Line Co-Founder Robert Hammond and question-and-answer session with the audience.

The talks are presented by Friends of the High Line in partnership with the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy and The Trust for Public Land. The series is made possible by the New York Community Trust—LuEsther T. Mertz Advised Fund and, in part, with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts with support from Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature.
