Fresh off a tour of Russia, Beth Custer brings her soulful sextet of the Bay Area's finest musicians to Rhythmix Cultural Works. Her ensemble draws from a dynamic circle of talent including Chris Grady, trumpet (Tom Waits, Grassy Knoll), Vicky Grossy, bass (PC Munoz, Bitches Brew), Diana Mangano, voice (Jefferson Starship), David James, guitar/voice (Afro Funk Experience, Spearhead), Jan Jackson, drums (Will Bernard, Chuck Berry) and Custer herself, clarinets/voice (Club Foot Orchestra, Trance Mission).

The Beth Custer Ensemble (BCE) performs songs and instrumentals from Custer's vast, rich repertoire of compositions and arrangements, including an accessibly entertaining blend of funky, avant-garde, world, classical, ambient and pop influences. Her musicals (The Ballad of Pancho & Lucy, June In A Box), and other projects: Vinculum Symphony, Dona Luz 30 Besos, and Eighty Mile Beach. BCE's CDs have received acclaim including in the top 100 Listener's Poll of WNYU and their 2009 release 'Roam' received SF Chronicle's 'little man leaping out of the chair' 5 star review.

"If an Olympics decathlon is ever staged for musicians, put your money on Beth Custer for the gold.” ~ Derk Richardson, SF Examiner
