Varnish Fine Art Presents
Beth Bojarski: “Confessions from the Family Tree”
September 2 – October 4, 2008
Opening Reception Friday September 5, 6-10pm

Milwaukee-based artist Beth Bojarski wants to make you laugh. She is among a select breed of contemporary artists that successfully deliver serious artwork with a fantastic sense of humor. “I love the fact that an artist is often given more freedom to question the world around them,” says Bojarski. Working in oils on found wooden surfaces, Bojarski creates paintings as a form of storytelling, delving into a fantastic world that draws upon her own peculiar ability to find everyone’s laugh-button. Playing with the concept of the family tree, she incorporates the original mythical family, Adam & Eve, into this new series of works, infusing features of her own family throughout along with traditional family portrait elements. The intertwining tale of this “family” is rooted within the gallery by a 3-dimensional installation created by Bojarski in collaboration with sculptor Mark Winter. Confessions from the Family Tree is Bojarski’s first solo show.
