presents
ECLIPSE Master Class,
Thursday, March 26, 6:30 p.m., at Trinity Church

Bridging the gap between classical tradition and cutting-edge music technology, FUJITSU TEN and Berklee College of Music present Eclipse Master Class on Thursday, March 26, 6:30 p.m., at Trinity Church, 206 Clarendon St., Boston. Free admission. For more information visit www.berklee.edu/events.
Award-winning Scottish cello virtuoso Peter Gregson will perform a program of works with live interactive electronics and the incredible, 10-speaker ECLIPSE TD 712z system, all managed (in real time) by Milton Mermikides, professor of music technology at the Royal Academy of Music in London in one of Boston’s most beautiful acoustic settings, Trinity Church.
The program will include US premieres by six leading UK composers and feature a 40-cello arrangement of Thomas Tallis’s Renaissance masterpiece Spem in Alium, reproduced with incredible clarity by the ECLIPSE TD system. Peter Gregson’s talent for working with composers and his feeling for the cello in accord with the ECLIPSE TD system creates a remarkable audio experience for students, industry professionals and music enthusiasts alike. Following the program Peter Gregson will lead a short master class in performing with electronics.
Peter Gregson is an award-winning cellist and pioneer of contemporary music who reinvigorates the classical genre by embracing contemporary culture and technologies. From full capacity churches, web-based recitals, and freestanding events in warehouses, his aim is to find the pulse of contemporary music and engage the mass of otherwise excluded audiences. Recognized in November 2008 with the prestigious Glenfiddlich Spirit of Scotland award, Peter has been called a “new music champion” with “the world at his fingertips” by Classical Music Magazine and The Scotsman. While in residence at Banff Centre in Canada, he recorded his debut award-winning CD, SPEM, which features five new works alongside the first solo recording of Thomas Tallis’s 40-part motet, Spem in Alium. The CD was released at a sold-out showcase and simultaneously broadcast online to an audience across the world. Peter will be touring the SPEM program as past of the ECLIPSE Master Class series in America.
Milton Mermikides was raised with wide artistic and scientific influences, resulting in an eclecticism that remains with him today. He has composed and produced for institutions including BBC1, Channel 4, BBC Radio 1, 2, & 3, Apple Computers, Liverpool Philharmonic, Abbey Road Studios, Royal Academy of Music, Mencap, Park Lane Group, Guitar Techniques Magazine, and Ken Loach’s film company ‘Sixteen Films’. His compositions have been performed worldwide and he has collaborated with a diverse range of creative artists including classical guitarist John Williams, jazz guitar legend Pat Martino, Steve Winwood, music technology guru Tod Machover (MIT), and fashion designers Hiroko Koshino & Hussein Chalayan MBE, who was twice chosen as British designer of the year.
The ECLIPSE Master Class is a global concept that connects communities through music, art, and audio technology. Organized all by Berklee students, the event presents a unique opportunity for students to independently pursue publicity and organize the logistics of the event.
