Reception with the Artist and ACHA President Amy Verstappen to follow

ACHA Member and congenital heart survivor Stephanie Liem is a fourth-year full scholarship student with Alan Morrison at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia granted by the Mrs. Cary William Bok Fellowship. She began studying the organ at the age of nine with Michael Stairs, organist of the Philadelphia Orchestra and of the Church of the Redeemer in Bryn Mawr, where she began her choral training as well.

Stephanie sang at the Redeemer with the Bryn Mawr Girlchoir’s Touring Choir, in which she was their first head chorister and a featured part of their tours in the United States and England. She also assisted director Daniel Moriarty in training the Bryn Mawr Girlchoir’s younger Resident Choir. Through the Girlchoir, Stephanie has worked with esteemed artists such as Dr. Bary Rose and Malcolm Archer of St. Paul’s Cathedral in London.

At the age of eleven, Stephanie was the youngest organist to play on the historic Wanamaker organ. She won first prize in the 2003 West Chester University Organ Competition’s High School Division, and second prize at the 2003 Albert Schweitzer Organ Festival’s High School Division. Stephanie has also performed in conventions hosted by both the American Guild of Organists (AGO) and the National Association of Pastoral Musicians (NPM). This past summer, Stephanie traveled with the Curtis Organ Department to Paris and accompanied the choir of St. Peter’s of Lewes, DE on their tour of Scotland, ending the summer with a Curtis Organ Department concert at Ocean Grove Auditorium.

Stephanie frequently gives concerts in Philadelphia and Hong Kong. Last year, she acted as the interim organist and alto soloist at the First Baptist Church of Philadelphia. Stephanie has one compact disc, Stephanie Liem at the Organ of the Church of the Redeemer; and is featured on the Bryn Mawr Girlchoir’s recording, Here I Am, Lord; as well as the recording from their 2005 tour to Chicago, You Are the New Day.

Combining music with her own personal experience, Stephanie has both performed for and spoken on behalf of WE MOVE (Worldwide Education and Awareness for Movement Disorders), and this concert will benefit the Adult Congenital Heart Association (ACHA).
