Blue Frog Sunday Night Movie in collaboration with Palador, Presents Belle De Jour by Luis Bunuel. Cast - Catherine Deneuve, Jean Sorel, Michel Piccoli, Genevive Page, Pierre Clmenti, Franoise Fabian, Macha Mril, Maria Latour, Georges Marchal and Muni. Belle de Jour, Luis Bunuel's masterpiece, dramatizes the collision between depravity and elegance, one of the director's favorite themes. Catherine Deneuve stars as a wealthy but bored newlywed, eager to taste life to the fullest. She seemingly gets her wish early in the film when she is kidnapped, tied to a tree, and gang-raped. It turns out that this is only a daydream, but her subsequent visits to a neighboring brothel, where she offers her services, certainly seem to be real. This illusion/reality dichotomy extends to the famously mysterious ending which has had critics arguing for decades over its meaning. "Belle de Jour" was unreleased for many years due to copyright problems, but finally re-released in 1995 through the efforts of director Martin Scorcese. The film was awarded the Golden Lion at the 1967 Venice Film Festival, as well as the award for Best Foreign Film in 1968 from the New York Film Critics Circle.
