Political cartoons offer a profound and immediate insight into how events in a nation's history are perceived as they unfold. Sometimes provocative, always stimulating they have the power to both entertain and to instruct. The year 2010 was one of the most surprising, unpredictable and turbulent in Australian politics. It has provided political cartoonists with a plethora of opportunities. This exhibition celebrates the artistic talents of Australia's established political cartoonists including Jon Kudelka, David Pope, Michael Leunig and Reg Lynch as well as recognising the talents of a new generation such as Maurice Argiro and Rob Duong.
“There was a large amount of interesting political fodder for our political cartoonists over the course of 2010 and Behind the Lines has selected some of the finest from our incredibly talented cartoonists including Kudelka, Pope, Lynch and Leunig. The talent of these cartoonists to crystallize and reflect the political moment is astonishing and we encourage everyone to come along and enjoy this free event,” said Robert Love, Director of Riverside Theatres.

During the course of the exhibition, a number of special conversations with Julian Morrow will complement the exhibition. Julian Morrow is a member of The Chaser comedy TV group who made international headlines with an outrageous stunt invading the 2008 APEC conference with a fake Osama Bin Laden motorcade.
