Beer Judging 101 and 201 with Grand Master beer judge David Teckam, an experienced beer judge trainer, assisted by Certified beer judges Brian Cooper and Gail Williams. Enhance your evaluative, perceptive, and descriptive abilities while trying world-class beers.

Beer geeks of all kinds such as beer judges and stewards, beer servers, discerning homebrewers and fine beer appreciators are invited to two intensive seminars.

Beer Judging 101 - Introduction, Tuesday June 16 at 6:00pm:
Discover the world of beer evaluation. While tasting, we will identify and describe aroma, appearance, flavor, and mouthfeel of the beer, going over a few specific defects that may occur, and their causes. Class includes a brief introduction to the Beer Judge Certification Program. Beginners welcome, no pre-requisite is needed for the 101 class.

Beer Judging 201, the Advanced class, Tuesday June 16 at 8:00pm:
For BJCP judges or experienced tasters. While tasting several beers, we’ll discuss attributes, descriptors, and defects in a little greater depth. We’ll explore some of the finer points of judging, and what makes a great beer judge. Class members will work on a BJCP judging sheet as a group, then judge a beer individually, and will learn about involvement and advancing within the BJCP. Pre-requisite is either the 101 class, or a sound knowledge of beer styles.

6:00pm for 101 and 8:00pm for 201 class.

We’ll be holding these classes at The Englander, a English style pub in the East Bay. Designated drivers and/or public transit are highly encouraged. We encourage everyone to eat (at the Englander, if you wish) before and/or after your participation in the beer judging class. See the Beer by BART listing:

It’s an easy stroll from the San Leandro BARTstation.

These classes are a pre-conference event for the National Homebrewing Convention. Event sponsored by Beer By BART, The Englander Pub, and the Mad Zymurgists (an East Bay homebrew club.) (Tickets for the NHC are sold separately, at beertown.org)
Tickets for this class must be purchased in advance.
