101 Parrott St
San Leandro, California 94577

Taste with a top-ranked judge to learn what makes a world-class brew. Identify common defects that can come up in the brewing process. Tune up your descriptive abilities.

101 is at 1:00; 201 is at 3:00 pm. Each class takes approximately one and a half hours. The group will taste some world class beers in the process.

[NOTE: The 101 event looks like it will sell out... be sure to contact Brian ASAP and arrange payment.]

The Intro (101) class is for appreciators of fine beer (or wine) who want to learn more about world beer styles, tasting vocabulary, and brewing excellence. It's also appropriate for current beer judges who want a refresher on the basics. You will taste a good variety of beers, discuss flavor, aroma, body, and related attributes of the beer. You will also learn a little bit about the Beer Judge Certification Program.

The Advanced (201) class is recommended for those who have taken the intro (101) class, who have experience in beer judging, or have a fundamental background in critical sampling of world beer styles. The class will taste several beers and discuss them in great detail, filling out a sample judging sheet, and discussing what it takes to be a great judge, and to advance in the Beer Judge Certification Program ranking system.

Grand Master Judge David Teckam is a respected educator of West Coast beer judges. He will be assisted by certified judges Brian Cooper and Gail Williams.

These seminars are part of San Francisco Beer Week 2009, a ten day celebration of great beers. Space is limited, and may be reserved by emailing Brian Cooper. Each seminar is $25, or attend both for $45. Beers and materials are included.

The Englander is a prominent English style pub in the East Bay, a few blocks from San Leandro BART. Designated drivers and public transit are highly encouraged. Also, we encourage everyone to eat (at the Englander, if you wish) before and/or after your participation in the beer judging class.

Reserve your space by emailing [email protected]
