BBC Electric Proms - Reverend and the Makers; The Metros; New Cassettes October 26, 2007

*** Reverend and the Makers ***

Indie guitar pop mixed with a sprinkling of funk and a heavy helping of refreshing lyrics and you are a well on your way to describing the ingredients that form Sheffield eight-piece, Reverend and the Makers.

Lead by charismatic front man and sometime-poet, Jon Mclure, Reverend and the Makers have started to make waves in 2007 with the release of their debut album ‘The State of Things’ featuring radio friendly tracks ‘Heavyweight Champion of the World’ and ‘He Said He Loved Me’.

Buddies with fellow Sheffield act, Arctic Monkeys, Reverend and the Makers supported them last year during their sell-out UK tour. This expanded their following and led to their own sell-out shows in 2006.

Delighted to have them on board as part of the BBC Electric Proms, Reverend and the Makers are sure to lift the roof of Camden’s Barfly with their energetic and indeed poetic approach to live performance.

*** The Metros ***

When lead singer Saul Adamczewski discovered his dad's old vinyl collection, the sound of south London five-piece The Metros took a different twist. Initially inspired by ska, The Strokes and The Libertines, Saul and friend Jak began listening to the sounds of Squeeze, The Specials and Ian Drury and The Blockheads.

The result is a fusion of pop, punk, funk and rockabilly and captured the ears of 1965 Records boss James Endeacott who also signed The Libertines and Mercury Prize nominees, The View.

The Metros sing about being kicked out of school - something that lead singer Saul has an affinity with. Let's just say hurling a computer at a teacher didn't go down too well. With a mature sound beyond their years, The Metros will go on the road with The Coral in October and will be one of the new acts to watch at this year's BBC Electric Proms.

*** New Cassettes ***

New Cassettes are playing as part of BBC Electric Proms Introducing...

This five piece from Northampton started out playing for fun in 2005 and have had a continued run of success, supporting The Strokes and Adam Green and playing the Latitude and Wireless festivals, and this year, the 'BBC Introducing...' stage at Glastonbury.

They are due to release a follow-up split single later this year entitled 'Recover Retreat /I'm Always Right' featuring the brand of indie rock that has had them pegged as a 'band to watch'.

*** BBC Electric Proms ***
This gig is part of the BBC's Electric Proms festival which takes place across Camden on 24-28 October. Over 80 artists are performing and they've all been encouraged to create something unique for their shows.
