Manchester, England

Cunningly nestled between the two World Cup quarter finals, BBC are hosting a free one-day festival in Albert Square, bringing together a handful of Manchester's upcoming bands and musicians.

Kicking off at 5.45pm on Friday 30th June, the confirmed line-up so far reads:

Tom Hingley and The Lovers
Omerta
The Nightjars
Isobel Heyworth
Fear of Music
Tsana
Snowfight in the City Centre

It's a completely free, un-ticketed event. Event Producer Hannah Wysome says:

"BBC Blast offers people a chance to explore their creative ideas and this gig provides a platform for the best new acts coming out of Manchester, as well as the resurgence of one of the old guards."

Join in the festival atmosphere at Albert Square without the hassle of getting your boots muddy.

Argh... missed it! So... was it good?

It was alright. Fear Of Music were good, and Snowfight in the city centre were alright.

There's pictures here.

Snowfight were playing at The Music Box afterwards. I went down to there to watch The Answering Machine and The Maple State - each of whom were impressive.

In fact, The Music Box proberly had more attendees than BBC Blast...
