BAVC - Launch Party for "We Own TV" May 14, 2009

Don't miss this special BAVC event! BAVC Mediamaker Award recipient Banker White and project collaborators Black Nature, Zach Niles and Dave Robb will join us for the launch of the new website for WeOwnTV, a collaborative media project that promotes self-expression as a way to explore our shared humanity and build a foundation for the future.

Come to the launch party to hear the music of the Sierra Leone Refugee All-Stars, celebrate the work of these award-winning producers, check out the new site that profiles their community media projects from West Africa and be part of the ongoing effort for social change and entrepreneurship in the region.

The first program of WeOwnTV is a series of community based media workshops to teach filmmaking techniques to a group of young Sierra Leonean ex-combatants and civil war survivors. WeOwnTV will provide the technical support, training and encouragement that will allow these young adults to creatively produce their own media and share their experiences and ideas with the world. WeOwnTV can be the link to that world, and a platform for these unique and powerful stories.

This is a free event, open to both members and the community at large.
