Battle City 7 brings Hip Hop back to the street with the ultimate block party in the city centre. Now in its 7th year, this free open air event is presented as part of Brisbane Festival 2008, showcasing Australias top B Boys and B Girls in a highly competitive battle environment. Teams of four will face off in the traditional breaking battle stance as they endeavour to take each other out for the $500 cash prize Winner takes all!

The B Boys and B Girls are definitely the stars of the night and confirmed to compete are national champs Skill @ Will and previous Battle City Winners Hybrid Soles. But it wouldnt be a hip hop jam without the MCs on the mic and DJs on the wheels of steel.

Battle City veteran resident and local legend DJ Bacon returns to Brisbane for the night to provide the audio backdrop for the breakers through his extensive collection of old school and contemporary B Boy tunes. Blessing the decks alongside Bacon will be Danny Cool, who has recently moved to Brisbane after conquering Melbourne with his old-school sensibility of rocking the party with an eclectic bag of tunes. Recent Australias Got Talent finalists Shift-1 will also be on hand, popping and locking live on the Turbot Street Stage.

The night will be hosted and feature a performance by none other than two of the ladies from MC crew Hiatus, Sammie D and Doesa. Local Hip-hop outfit Impossible Odds will also be on hand to tear up the stage with their straight up, lyrically thought provoking music.

Brisbane City Council in association with Odyssey present:
Turbot Street Party
Saturday July 19 5pm to 10pm
www.myspace.com/turbotstreetparty

An iconic Brisbane event, Saturday night will see The Turbot Street Party take hold of Brisbane with a host of local talent, roving performers, free rides, and a stack more to boot. Presented by Odyssey and The Brisbane City Council, Turbot Street Party will bring the Turbot Street Overpass alive with a sea of life and colour A Carnival Of Counter Culture.

Local champs HalfKast And The Grand Audio Family are headlining an event designed the finest of the up-n-coming Brisbane talent. Perennial favourites The Kidney Thieves will also be in attendance, their pysch-encrusted metal sure to have Turbot St livid with energy. With a penchant for stage monikers and ludicrous song titles, a propensity toward random costumes and live visual projections, and a soft spot for instrumental epics, The Kidney Thieves offer a performance that is as musically challenging as it is entertaining.

Psychedelic Rock four-piece Sunflower will also be on hand with a building storm of of local acclaim and hunger for driving riffs and striking vocals. Dont Come Monday and Swipe Inc round off the line up.

Turbot St Party will also be breaking new ground to include an interactive artwork from Janice Kuczkowski titled 'Experiments in Instinctive Reaction'. Suffice to say the centrepiece of said interactive artwork is a horizontal bungee machine, far beyond a gallery exhibition, and not for the faint hearted, this is art you can throw your whole body into. Brought to you as part of the 'Inhabit: Ideas for better living' public art series.
