BATE-PAPO
(Conversation Classes)
This class is a fluency course and it is intended for students who have an advanced/conversational level in Portuguese, not necessarily Brazilian. This class emphasizes oral and written communication skills, and it is recommended for students who communicate well in Portuguese but don’t have a chance to practice it on a regular basis. For those who already know the language but haven’t mastered it yet, this class will be very helpful. We will be meeting once a week to discuss a different subject. Different media materials (articles, literature, advertising, videos, songs, etc) from all Portuguese-speaking countries will be used. An especial attention will be given to the Portuguese spoken in Brazil.

This is an on-going class and the students are free to attend anytime. Here is how this class works:

1. The instructor gives the student the material to be discussed next week.
2. The student has a week to go through that material and to write a text about that subject.
3. We meet on the following week to chat about that subject, learn new expressions and be exposed to different points of view from other students.

The role of the instructor is to guide the conversation and answer questions, but the students are the ones talking for the most part.

Besides the conversation, we will be learning new usages of the languages (idioms, connectors to coordinate and subordinate sentences) from a book designed for advanced students.
