BARE WITNESS
ILLAWARRA PERFORMING ARTS CENTRE
Tuesday 2 – Saturday 6 October
Behind each image there's a story. But is it the truth we want, or just the next front page?
An electrifying multi-media play drawing on actual experiences of photographers and correspondents, Bare Witness catapults us into the world’s combat zones, exploding the way we view the world’s humanity through the fragmenting lens of the media. A remarkable piece of physical theatre, directed by Nadja Kostich, Bare Witness is playing at Illawarra Performing Arts Centre from Tuesday 2 – Saturday 6 October.
Through the eyes of a young Australian woman, Dannie Hills, we follow a pack of complicated, flawed characters who share the unbreakable bond of war journalists. The production takes us through the Balkans, East Timor and Iraq, scrutinising the complex terrain of contemporary photo-journalism against the backdrop of twenty years of ongoing international conflict.
