http://www.music4more.org/bandtobandcombat_dc/

Judges and fan votes will determine the winner of the competition. The first place prize will be $500 and the honor to be the opening band at Washington D.C.'s all inclusive ticketed New Years' Eve event. The Downtown Countdown is looking for a local band to kick-off the party and perform in the opening slot before Third Eye Blind and The Dirty Heads!

With sites like VH1.com, pandora.com, and billboard.com now comparing the dreamscapes project to prominent bands like the Decemberists, Arcade Fire, and the Dave Matthews Band, its hard to imagine that a decade ago, when budding singer/songwriter Keith Center approached composition major Jeremy Rodgers about forming the band, that he promptly replied "No". Although it took till 2006 to find its final line up, even Rodgers would admit that he never imagined the legion of loyal listeners which has followed this eccentric quintet since he reconsidered that fateful day. By 2008 the loyalty of their fan base had already caught the attention of the Washington Post and Myspace (#1 folk-rock band in Virginia 2007), and their songwriting had already garnered them an honorable mention in the John Lennon Songwriting Competition. With the bands last release however, theScapes began racking up statistics and accolades.

Virginia's premiere unsigned rock act; MADRONE combine intricate riffs, earth shaking drums, driving bass, and impassioned vocals to form a sound unlike any other. In the years the band has existed; Madrone has created an enveloping, inviting and massively intriguing sound. Mixing elements of hardcore, psychedelic and modern alternative rock within Madrone you find breakdowns as heavy as Lamb of God, multilayered guitars reminiscent of Pink Floyd and stadium-sized, fluid choruses. These are just a few of the stories within Madrone, yet there are countless more within the songs of this band on the brink of something spectacular. Madrone invites you to take a ride with a band ready to captivate your mind and welcome you to find your own story within their music.

The idea of Breaking Borders began inside the minds of lead singer Will Ruben and guitarist/pianist Nathan Kastner as they entered Thomas Wootton high school. This idea began to materialize with the two friends writing awful, acoustic, 3 Doors Down-esque songs that they recorded on garage band (for the record, those songs have since been deleted). But, it didn't matter how bad the songs were, they loved writing music and couldn't get enough. The two friends agreed that simply writing acoustic music wasn't cutting it anymore and decided to begin a band. So with the help of Falon Lewis (drums), Matt Oberdorfer (guitar), and Justin Pugrant (bass), Breaking Borders was formed. They released their debut album, This Crazy Weather, in September.
