Balinese Music and Dance at Art 6 August 18, 2012

In Bali, gamelan music is as popular today as it was a 500 years ago. Richmond’s Gamelan Raga Kusuma draws its repertoire from classical gamelan literature and incorporates contemporary pieces specifically written for the group-a perfect example of tradition redefined by contemporary interpretation. Their performance at Art 6 will include dancers from the Indonesian embassy and will feature both ancient devotional temple dances and dynamic secular repertoire.
