BAILOUT BURLESQUE CHARITY AUCTION

NEW YORK – On May 23, Nexus Nightlife puts together a burlesque revue to raise awareness and financial assistance for those in the sex industry. By ‘auctioning’ off our various performers, Nexus Nightlife will raise money to assist the efforts of the Sex Workers Project of Urban Justice. Featuring performers from Cosplay Burlesque and the White Elephant Burlesque Society, the Bailout Burlesque Charity Auction brings in some of New York and New Jersey’s best talent for one of New York’s best causes.

Winning a bid on a performer entails having the performer become your table’s personal cocktail waiter/waitress for the duration of the entire event. Tickets for the Bailout Burlesque Charity Auction will be sold for $ 5.00 the night of the show, or for $ 3.00 with a flier invitation or with RSVP to [email protected].

ABOUT THE PARTICIPATING ORGANIZATIONS:

Since 2003, the Sex Workers Project of Urban Justice has provided sex workers with legal services and training, documentation and policy advocacy. With their harm reduction and human rights model, the Sex Workers Project protects the rights and safety of sex workers who by choice, circumstance or coercion have chosen to remain in the industry. Cosplay Burlesque was founded by Victoria Belmont in 2008 to offer more adult oriented content at anime, manga and science fiction conventions. Hoping to add “something new and different” to the line up, Victoria brought together the innate pageantry of cosplaying and the theatrics of burlesque. Encompassing drag acts, musical numbers, comedy skits and of course striptease, Cosplay Burlesque has touched every genre within cosplay from Pokemon to Evil Dead. The White Elephant Burlesque Society, formed in 2006, has been active in conventions, rock shows, dungeons and nightlife in New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts and Pennsylvania since its conception. With their bawdy humor with raunchy dances, the White Elephant Burlesque Society honors the classic style of gypsy cabaret and vaudeville in a modern, relevant adaptation.
