San Francisco, CA - Opening at Fouladi Projects Sept 11th and on view through October 27th, "BAD SMELL" is an exhibition featuring a new group of works by internationally celebrated Italian artist, Laurina Paperina. The exhibition will be a prolific assortment of Paperina's paintings on wood and paper, small photographs, animations and a site-specific installation.

In her cartoonish and satirical artwork, Italian multimedia artist Laurina Paperina fearlessly mocks famous contemporary artists, their dealers, and very often, herself. Her mischievous nature and giddy humor ameliorates the otherwise graphic content of her imagery, which has typically depicted icons of the art world (as well as pop culture celebrities) being variously dismembered and duly destroyed. More recently, she has focused her absurd scope on the current global preoccupation with the end of the world. At first glance, the work may seem crafted merely for visual entertainment, but further contemplation reveals an astute existential commentary on the human condition. Her irreverent "no one is safe from ridicule" policy manages to level the playing field, and reminds us no matter how exalted we may perceive a person to be, in the end, we are all just a bag of bones.
