The renowned Bach Choir of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania will hold its 100th Bethlehem Bach Festival on the first two weekends in May 2007 (May 3-6 and May 10-12). As a special innovation for the 100th Festival, Greg Funfgeld and the Choir have expanded traditional programming by inviting notable figures of the dance, theater, film and jazz worlds to reflect the range and variety of Bach’s influence on contemporary art forms and music-making. Guest artists will include such luminaries as Taylor 2 -- touring ensemble of the Paul Taylor Dance Company, jazz pianist/improviser Donal Fox, acclaimed for his “Blues on Bach” Project, the early music specialists of the Baltimore Consort, and the world premiere showing of the film Mr. Bach Comes to Call, a dramatic musical story for all ages based on the award-winning Classical Kids CD. Produced by the Bach Choir of Bethlehem in collaboration with Touchstone Theatre and GreenTreks Network, Mr. Bach Comes to Call is scheduled for subsequent television broadcast nationwide on PBS. The Festival will close with a Bach Jazz Cabaret at Hotel Bethlehem on Saturday evening May 12. This 100th Festival Party honors The Bach Choir of Bethlehem and will feature pianist Donal Fox, one of today’s most remarkable jazz artists, in a set of improvisations based on Bach themes.
