With Maestro Ben Simon at the artistic helm, the San Francisco Chamber Orchestra has set repeated precedents as a dynamic, forward-looking chamber orchestra that gives new audiences exposure to professional classical music at no cost.

To celebrate, the SFCO is staging a gala showcase at Yoshi's San Francisco on Sunday afternoon, May 1, featuring all the orchestra's unique flavor and innovation in repertoire.

The performance includes a recreation of PDQ Bach's hilarious "Beethoven's Fifth Symphony Sportscast," with Maestro Ben Simon taking on the home-run sluggers of the SFCO bullpen. KCBS News sports anchor Hal Ramey will make the calls, with color commentary by award-winning monologist Josh Kornbluth (who also takes the stage on oboe for JS Bach's Cantata #85).

The program will also include cello prodigy Nathan Chan's swing at Schubert's "Arpeggione Sonata," the premiere of jazz-brass great Wayne Wallace's "Concertina for Jazz Trombone," and rising soprano Erica Schuller joining Kornbluth on Bach's Cantata #85.

A champagne brunch and silent auction round out the afternoon, all in support of SFCO's upcoming year of programming--and the many years to come.
