02/23/09 AutoCAD 2008 Creating & Presenting 3D Models

Description
This course provides a basic understanding of how to design and modify 3D models using AutoCAD software. Creating 3D models helps users better visualize and present designs that are created with CAD.

This course introduces students to the fundamental concepts and workflows for creating 3D models with AutoCAD. Students explore how to create and modify both solid and surface models. Students learn how to present their designs while they are still being created, using visualization tools such as visual styles, model walk and fly-throughs, materials, and lighting. Students also learn how to output 3D models from the CAD system to either paper or a distributable, electronic version. The concepts and practices taught will help students take their AutoCAD designs to the next dimension.

Who should attend?
• Represent a design by creating solid primitives, solid or surface models from cross-sectional geometry, or composite models from multiple solid models.
• Complete a solid model design by adding the necessary features to detail, duplicate, and position 3D models.
• Convert 2D objects to 3D objects.
• Document a 3D design by creating 2D drawings for production and visualization.
• Communicate design ideas using visual styles, lights, model walk-through tools, and renderings.

Prerequisite
AutoCAD 2008 Intermediate

Duration: 2 days
Time: 10am-6pm

02/27/09 101 - Editing with Avid Media Composer

Description
This three-day course introduces the concepts of nonlinear editing and includes all basic features of the Avid Media Composer system for Windows and Macintosh. Session time is divided between demonstration and hands-on practice, with ample time for experimentation with sample SD and HD material. Students will use Avid Media Composer to capture and organize source footage, edit sync and non-sync material, trim sequences, edit audio, create titles, and output work. The final product will be a finished program. This course is also appropriate for Avid Symphony users.

Prerequisites
Designed for the novice Avid Media Composer editor, no familiarity with the system is necessary. Completion of a Windows or Macintosh introductory course or equivalent is required, and a background in editing, production, or post-production is strongly suggested.

Duration: 3 days
Time: 10am-6pm

03/02/09 110 - Introduction to Avid Media Composer Effects

Description
This two-day course introduces basic effects and is a prerequisite for the 305 Advanced Avid Media Composer Effects course. Topics include: creating multilayered effects, keyframing effects, creating effect templates, mixing HD and SD clips in an effect composite, using AVX plug-in effects, creating motion effects and timewarps, using the 3D Effects option, and nesting layers. Class time is divided between demonstration and hands-on-practice. This course is also appropriate for Avid Symphony users.

Prerequisite
101 Editing with Avid Media Composer

Duration: 2 days
Time: 10am-6pm

03/07/09 210 - Creating Graphics & Mattes for Avid Editing Systems with Adobe Photoshop

Description
Designed for the advanced Avid Media Composer or Avid Xpress Pro editor, this two-day course demonstrates how to prepare still and moving graphics for import into Avid Media Composer using both SD and HD formats. Class time is divided between demonstration and hands-on-practice. Topics include: preparing and importing graphics, creating and using alpha channels, layers, and matte keys, and using Adobe Photoshop to treat logos and web graphics for use in a video program. Third party packages used in the class include Adobe Photoshop CS 3. This course is also relevant for Avid Symphony users.

Prerequisites
Completion of either the 101 Editing with Avid Media Composer course and the 110 Introduction to Avid Media Composer Effects or for Xpress Pro users completion of the 119 and 129 courses.

Duration: 2 days
Time: 10am-6pm
