Joel Eisenberg and Beth Orsoff will speak at the Alameda Writer's Group (AWG) meeting on Saturday, April 1, 2006. Doors open at 9:45 a.m. and the meeting begins at 10 a.m. at the Glendale Central Library, 222 East Harvard St. Glendale.
Eisenberg will discuss insights from "You're Too Smart to Go Down Stupid: Maverick Career Strategies for Creative Artists," the title of his second book due out in May. The author has written over 30 screenplays, has been nominated for screenplay awards, and runs the annual San Diego Film Festival Screenplay Competition. He currently has a film in development, co-written with Emmy-nominated producer, Victoria Larimore. His first book, "Aunt Bessie's 'How to Survive a Day Job While pursuing the Creative Life,'" includes contributions from Clive Barker, Carolyn See, Kelly Lange, Robert Wise, Stephen J. Cannel, and many others. He will be signing copies of this book at the meeting.
Beth Orsoff will discuss how her book, "Romantically Challenged." originated from a one page story in a writing workshop to a published novel. As an entertainment lawyer at Warner Brother's, Orsoff enrolled in the UCLA Extension Writer's Program. With no publishing connections, and no prior knowledge of writing, Orsoff actually quit her job to write her first novel. Her agent is currently shopping her second novel, "Disengaged." (Her first book will be available a few days after the talk)
Admission is free, and the library validates parking in the Good Guys parking structure at Harvard and Maryland.
The AWG presents lectures by novelists, screenwriters, agents, producers, and other industry professionals at free monthly meetings. In addition, AWG members may attend special interest groups that offer support and feedback for works-in-progress.
