AUTHOR’S RECEPTION AND BOOK SIGNING

Along with Bonnie and Clyde, “Baby Face” Nelson, and “Machine Gun” Kelley, John Dillinger’s exploits dominated the attention of newspapers all across the country in the 1930’s. Was he a dangerous criminal or a Robin Hood? You decide.

A new book, Inmate #13225: John Herbert Dillinger by former Pendleton resident Ray Tincher, explores his Pendleton and Daleville connections. John Dillinger served four years at the Indiana State Reformatory, now known as the Pendleton Correctional Facility. On July 17, 1933, Dillinger and Harry Copeland walked into the Daleville Bank where cashier Margaret Good was working as a teller. “This is a stick-up, Honey!” he yelled. With the move of a high jumper, Dillinger leaped over a five foot wooden railing, separating the teller cage. Dillinger was named “The Leaping Bank Robber” by the news media after the incident.

The Pendleton Community Library, 595 East Water Street will sponsor an author’s reception and book signing event for the author on Sunday, September 23rd at 2:00 p.m. in the Community Room.

Anderson and Pendleton area residents will particular enjoy the discussion of Dillinger’s Pendleton and Daleville connections.

Admission to the reception is free and open to the public. RSVP’s are appreciated.
