North Vancouver, British Columbia

Author Laurel Hickey reads from her "Eye of the Ocean" trilogy, and discusses her experiences in online self-publishing (where she joins the ranks of Cory Doctorow and Stephen King). When asked about her work, she replied: "Should I mention that I destroy the universe? Of course, anyone who describes high school in terms of survival has that ambition."

This all happens at this week's BIFF (Burrard Inlet Fan Fellowship, a weekly meet-up of science fiction & fantasy fans)

COST: Free to attend (though BIFF has an informal agreement with the restaurant that everyone orders something)

RSVP: Not necessary; just show up. This is a regular Friday gathering. BIFF is the group in front of the restaurant's wall screen.
