Join author Mary Anne Barothy as she discusses and signs copies of her book, Day at a Time: An Indiana Girl's Sentimental Journey to Doris Day's Hollywood and Beyond.

Come discover how this young Indiana woman and longtime Doris Day fan found her dream-come-true job when she landed in Hollywood – and in Doris Day’s home. Mary Anne Barothy left her society reporter's job on The Indianapolis News and went to Hollywood to see, and work near, her favorite film star.

A fan since age 10, Barothy went to California in 1968 and got to know Miss Day. Their friendship evolved into an offer to work for her long-time idol as her personal secretary, a position she held for more than four years, part of that time in residence, as the only person outside of family to ever have lived in the star's home. While Barothy worked for the actress and singer, there was plenty of action when Miss Day was fighting to regain her fortune, starring in a hit TV series and beginning her career as an animal rights advocate.

During that time, the Indianapolis author socialized with many well-known celebrities including Doris' son Terry, a record producer who was an innocent witness at the Charles Manson murder trial; Billy De Wolfe, James Cagney, June Allyson, Dr. Robert Schuller, Warren Beatty and author Jacqueline Susann, to name a few.

As someone who experienced the star’s personal life and career moves first-hand, Barothy's story offers unique appeal, featuring stories never before told and Barothy’s rare personal photos of Doris.

"Day at a Time" was awarded first place in the Woman’s Press Club of Indiana 2008 Communications Contest and recently won second place from the National Federation of Press Women.
