Mercer Island author Diane Kinman will read from her new biography "Franca's Story: Survival in World War II Italy" from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22 at the Ballard Branch of The Seattle Public Library, 5614 22nd Ave. N.W.

The event is free and everyone is welcome. Registration is not required. Free parking is available at the branch.

"Franca's Story: Survival in World War II Italy" recounts the experience of a young woman in Italy during World War II. Franca Mercati Martin, the subject of the book and Kinman's neighbor on Mercer Island, also will speak.

This event is cosponsored by the Secret Garden Bookshop. Books will be available for purchase and signing.
