The Austin Jazz Workshop, a nonprofit group of professional musicians dedicated to jazz performance and education in Austin public schools, will release its fifth compact disc recording, Mystery Note: Austin Jazz Workshop plays Rahsaan Roland Kirk.
The CD focuses on the music of the great multi-instrumentalist Rahsaan Roland Kirk. Despite being blind from the age of two, Kirk astonished audiences around the world with his ability to perform on three saxophones at the same time. Mystery Note was recorded before a live audience at the Texas School for the Blind in May 2009.  Its release follows the conclusion of the AJW’s Bright Moments tour, which visited 118 public school campuses in central Texas.

the CD features:
Michael Melinger-soprano and tenor saxophones
Alex Coke-flute and tenor saxophone
Ron Westray-trombone
Floyd Domino-piano
Michael Stevens-bass
Robert Kazenel-drums
A CD-Release Party for Mystery Note will be held at the Elephant Room, 315 Congress Avenue, on Thursday October 15th from 9:30 p.m. to 1:30 a.m.  Previous AJW releases include Take to the Sky, Basin Street Stomp, Anything Goes, and Big Boss Tenor.  All AJW CD sales raise money for the school outreach project.
