Ten-Hour Art-Making Marathon and Exhibition to Support ArtSeed's Programs

ArtSeed invites people of all ages and skill levels to test their creative endurance at its Tenth Anniversary Art-a-thon. With every hour spent making art, participants will be raising funds to support ArtSeed's education programs. This ten-hour art-making marathon takes place on Saturday, April 17th, 2010, from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. at the Thoreau Center in the Presidio of San Francisco. Art-a-thoners are welcome to come any time and stay for any duration during those hours. Participants may work on their own projects or take advantage of the expert guidance and supplies provided. Throughout the day there will be live music, refreshments and guest artist appearances. The event will culminate in a festive exhibition of art work made that day, with prizes awarded in several categories.

Funds raised will support ArtSeed's Apprenticeship Program, the Summer Fine Arts Intensive and scholarships for youth from Bayview Hunters Point and other underserved Bay Area communities.

Participants are asked to register and collect pledges for each hour they create art. Pledges of any amount are welcome. An optional $15 registration fee is suggested to help offset the cost of supplies and refreshments. To register for the event, visit ArtSeed's website at http://www.artseed.org.

A sampling of the work produced in the Art-a-thon and in ArtSeed's Summer Intensive, Studio Apprenticeships, and schools programs will be shown in a series of exhibitions at the Presidio's Thoreau Center Seed and Corridor Galleries from April 18 - August 31, 2010.

Please come to the April 17 Art-a-thon wrap-up celebration 7-8pm and save the dates for ArtSeed's two year-end exhibitions. FREE Artists' Receptions: Friday, June 4, 4-7pm in the Thoreau Center's Seed Gallery and Thursday, August 12, 5-7pm in the Thoreau Center's Corridor Gallery adjacent to the Acre Cafe.
