WHAT: Artrageous on Clark Street in Lincoln Park (CSLP) is an inaugural multi-dimensional event designed to showcase talented local artists, neighborhood restaurants and the many extraordinary businesses on Clark Street in Lincoln Park. This free event is a culmination of several components that will attract Chicago-area art, food and music enthusiasts to celebrate spring, and indulge their senses and love of all things art-food-music with like-minded Lincoln Park visitors and residents.

The Artrageous main event features a full day of fun on Saturday, May 5, 2012 from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. The Clark Street in Lincoln Park neighborhood will be transformed into a vibrant art exhibition with competing artists who will be onsite with their works, live art demonstrations, pop-up galleries, live music, a community art project, cooking demonstrations, retailer presentations, workshops and more. The jam-packed all-day line-up touts some of Chicago’s most well-known art organizations including: Artists Seeds, Bottle & Bottega, Chicago Photography Center, Graceful Works, Lillstreet Art Center, Sister-Arts Studio and artist and author Krista August. All art demonstrations will take place at 2532 N. Clark Street.

Artrageous attendees will also enjoy exclusive and up-close viewing of cooking demonstrations by local chefs who reveal favorite cooking techniques to small groups of spectators in our festival test kitchen at 2324 N. Clark Street. Food demonstrations will be provided by chefs and presenters from: 2Sparrows, Dunlays on Clark, Geja’s Café, The Chopping Block, Washburne Culinary Institute and Zapatista.

The Artrageous culinary component highlights Clark Street’s dining establishments to all of Chicago on Tuesday, May 1, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Cravings on Clark is a new restaurant crawl featuring tasty tidbits from 16 local venues that will tease your taste buds with fabulous appetizers, decadent desserts and delicious main course samples.

Advance tickets are available for $30 at VisitClarkStreet.com, or $35 at the door. Check-in at 2324 N. Clark to pick up or purchase a passport. Participating restaurants include: 2Sparrows, Austrian Bakery, Basil Leaf Café, Crossroads Public House, Dunlays on Clark, Indian Grill, KC Chocolatier, Mickey’s Bar & Patio, Papa John’s, Potbelly Sandwich Works, Sultan’s Market, The Galway Arms, The Meatloaf Bakery, The Pasta Bowl, Vapiano and Zapatista.

The art element features a juried competition and public voting of original works on display. The artists’ works will be displayed beginning April 20th at noon in various storefronts and businesses along Clark Street between Armitage and Diversey, and on Diversey Parkway between Orchard and Lakeview. Visitors are encouraged to view the pieces and then vote for their favorite at VisitClarkStreet.com. Works will be on display and voting will continue through May 5 until 5 p.m. during the Artrageous main event. The jury will decide on the “Best of Show” award. Based upon the votes received by the public, the festival art committee will determine the “People’s Choice” award. Winning artists will be announced at the Artrageous Awards Ceremony beginning at 5 p.m. on May 5.

Throughout the day on May 5, Old Town School of Folk Music will present some of Chicago’s finest jazz talent as notes sail across the sidewalks of Clark and Diversey from The Dixie Tornadoes Trio, The Uptown Rhythm Trio and The West End Duo. While you’re taking in the tunes, don’t miss artists creating masterpieces live on the sidewalk!
