Catharine Clark Gallery presents two solo exhibitions of new works by the collaborative entity leonardogillesfleur and Charles Gute.

"leonardogillesfleur" is the resulting alliance of two artists, Leonardo Giacomuzzo and Gilles-fleur Boutry. Favoring ideas of the collective whole over notions of individual artistic identities, the work of leonardogillesfleur explores ideas of artistic production through collaboration. They refer to their work in the singular and, in fact, were awarded a Masters of Fine Arts under the name of the collective entity by the San Francisco Art Institute in 2004. Their work straddles the genres of performance, video and sculpture with an emphasis on conceptual ideas. Action Series is a recent body of video works that explores still photography through moving media in a variety of quotidian scenarios, such as blowing out candles on a birthday cake and eating ice cream on a sunny day. Irreconcilable Differences is a body of work that was previously explored through their creation of a full scale three-wheeled tandem bicycle with handle bars going in opposite directions. Present in the exhibition is the latest concept in this strand of work-a scale model Argentine car with dual steering wheels, set to drive in opposite directions.

Charles Gute's latest body of work Revisions and Queries combines his conceptual art practice with his work as an editor of contemporary art books. Gute's long standing preoccupation with text as form is evident throughout his work-his new series of graphically reductive prints are based on the editing process for Hans Ulrich Obrist's massive tome Interviews, a collection of 75 interviews with recognized contemporary art professionals. Subverting the editorial process, Gute culls the content from digital drafts and retains only his own editorial marks to create 'drawings' that are both ironic and quietly humorous.
