Catharine Clark Gallery presents the solo exhibition of new paintings by New York-based artist Julie Heffernan. Chicago-based Lincoln Schatz's work is featured in the video project room.

Julie Heffernan's paintings reveal her preoccupation with Baroque sensibilities-the interior spaces of her compositions often refer to grand ballrooms and ornate drawing rooms, while the figures are weighted by fantastical costumes overwrought with flora and fauna. Something of a contemporary surrealist, her compositions are drawn from the peculiar, nonsensical narratives of her dreams. As a result of drawing so directly from the images of her subconscious, Heffernan considers each work a kind of self-portrait and titles them as such.

Julie Heffernan has exhibited extensively throughout the United States. She has a Bachelors of Fine Arts in painting and printmaking from University of California, Santa Cruz and a Masters of Fine Arts in painting from Yale. Her work has garnered critical attention in numerous publications, including Artforum, Art in America, FlashArt, Artnews, and The New York Times among others. Her most recent solo exhibition, "Julie Heffernan: Everything that Rises", was presented by University Art Museum at University of Albany, New York. The accompanying full color catalogue is available for sale at Catharine Clark Gallery.

Video Project Room: Lincoln Schatz's most recent work combines sculpture, new media and video technology. His newest work, Slip, is a single channel, interactive video combined with computer software that stores more than 10 years of video memory. Multiple layers of images merge with live footage to create dynamic 'portraits' that continually evolve over time. Lincoln Schatz has exhibited widely nationally and internationally-including at art fairs such as Warsaw Electronics Festival (Warsaw, Poland), ARCO (Madrid, Spain), and Art Basel Miami (Miami, Florida).
